Everything and Everyone (Time Capsule)

January 24, 2021

When I was a kid, my best friend and I buried a time capsule at the end of the street. We included a letter for the people of the future who would open the box. Recently I realized that we are way farther into the future than we imaged then, so I am one of the “people of the future.” So at long last, here is my answer.

Lyrics

People of the future

LISTEN

We are writing to you
From this very spot
August 1, 1981
We need your help
Please send someone

We've got fire in the sky
And boots on the ground
The ocean's polluted
Acid rain's coming down
We can't get along
Everything has gone wrong
We need you to come
We don't have very long

Please, don't wait
Don't hesitate, it's getting late
Our tiny world can't take the weight
Of all its people filled with hate
And this is what they said

...

Fifty thousand warheads
Armed and ready to strike
We can blow up the world
Send it right out of sight
Everything and everyone
A nuclear winter
That blocks out the sun

When you find this letter
Please heed our call
Give us your wisdom
Before we lose all
The clock is ticking
We're running out of time
Tell us what to do
Give us some kind of sign
And they said

...

Please, don't wait
Don't hesitate, it's getting late
Our tiny world can't take the weight
Of all its people filled with hate

Please, don't wait
Don't hesitate, it's getting late
Our tiny world can't take the weight
Of all its people filled with hate
And they said

You've got it all wrong
We can't help you
It's much too late for us
Just become what you are
Baby, you're the star

Everything and everyone
And everything you've ever done
All the words you've said before
All the world for evermore

Everything and everyone
And everything you've ever done
All the words you've said before
All the world for evermore

Everything and everyone
And everything you've ever done
All the words you've said before
All the world for evermore

Everything and everyone
And everything you've ever done
All the words you've said before
All the world for evermore
