Tiny Kingdom

November 28, 2020

My fist single, “Tiny Kingdom” is now available! It is a fairytale, of sorts, set in the suburbs. It’s about someone who takes things too far and ruins everything. But in the end, depending on your point-of-view, there is hope with the start of something new.

This is the first release of a batch of songs I started seriously working on more than a year ago, before we were all locked away. Even though everything seems to have a new meaning in the wake of this past year, the inspiration for these songs came from something bigger. They are set in a real past of a fictional place (I’ll share more about that in another post). The idea that I started going after is that things are no more f***ed up now that they have ever been. I want to debunk nostalgia. I want to look as the past for what it is. Learn from it, not because I want to return to it, but so we can make the “now” better.

Lyrics

Destroy the suburbs!

I stand in awe
Of everything you are
A bullet from the sky
Find a place to hide

There's this guy
All he has is what the wind won't blow away
Never says a word
He's got nothing left to say
Only wonders why
Everyone's so sad
Staring at the world

Find your way home

He fires his gun
Into the midday sun, and he
Shot the damn thing
Out of the sky and brought it down
He wonders why
Everyone is holding back their tears
Staring at the world

Find your way home

Destroy the suburbs
Goodness knows why the weeds don't grow
Tear down the palisade
Dreaming of the day we finally
Destroy the suburbs
Don't you go where the poison flows
Burn down the palaces
Dreaming of the day we find our way back home

Darkened skies cover
Everything that the wind won't blow away
Why he did this he just will not say
He wanted to be loved
He wanted to be happy, but
Nothing about this makes it any easier going down

Destroy the suburbs
Goodness knows why the weeds don't grow
Tear down the palisade
Dreaming of the day we finally
Destroy the suburbs
Don't you go where the poison flows
Burn down the palaces
Dreaming of the day we find our way back home

I've got one more thing to say

Earth, sky, greenery
Everybody wants to be with me
Time to let it go
Let's all go down to the shower and
Hold my hand while everything around us falls down
